Fr. James Livingston has arrived in San Juan Capistrano!

Before making the five day trip by car, James spent the past three years in Alexandria, VA with his wife Joanne

while earning his degree at the Virginia Theological Seminary.

Having been ordained in the Washington National Cathedral on June 4^th, James comes to St. Margaret’s

To serve as chaplain, with his first teaching assignments in New Testament, Philosophy, and Ethics,

and to coach flag football for middle school.

He and his wife Joanne will celebrate their 5^th anniversary this Christmas,

and are extremely excited to expect their first baby this October.

Joanne is with her family in South Carolina, staying rested, saying goodbye to close family and friends,

and will arrive the beginning of September after James has gotten the house ready for her arrival.

James and Joanne met while studying acupuncture and Chinese medicine in Orlando, FL,

close to James’ hometown of Merritt Island, and each held private practices until James felt the call to the priesthood in 2007. If you want to know any more of the interesting tidbits that make up our new Fr. James,

he loves to talk with people on any number of things; his sister teaching in Thailand, his brother working at the Pentagon,

his mother a retired nurse, or his father who passed away in ‘04 but was a bonafide rocket scientist.

James has studied martial arts from the age of eight, gaining two black belts,

and opening a school for aikido which he has practiced for 15 years.

A lover of good sci-fi and fantasy movies, a video gamer at heart,

and above all an unwavering devotion to the risen Lord Jesus Christ, we are happy to welcome Fr. James Livingston.

Philip DeVaul comes to St. Margaret’s most recently from Alexandria, Virginia where he was

a student at Virginia Theological Seminary. Philip has called many places home in his life, including North Carolina, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Virginia, and Los Angeles, but he is an Orange County native, having spent the first 16 years of his life here.

He is thrilled to be back in the Southland where he can enjoy time with his family, the perfect weather, Mexican food done right, and In-N-Out.

Philip is married to Krista DeVaul, and they will be celebrating their 2^nd anniversary

on the 19^th of July. Krista and Philip enjoy going to the movies, taking road trips,

hanging out with their family, and walking their dog, Django.

Philip was recently ordained to the transitional diaconate. He is passionate about evangelism, about Biblical studies and languages, and about all varieties of music,

from bluegrass to swing, from blues to funk and grunge. He especially likes strumming on his ukulele, reading Karl Barth, and hazy Orange County mornings.

Mary Marjorie Bethea is a South Carolina native, but ventured west to attend college at Pepperdine University. After college, she earned her Masters of Divinity and

Masters of Cross-cultural studies at Fuller Theological Seminary where she had the opportunity to serve as a Teacher’s Assistant for Old Testament Studies and as co-chair for the Peace and Justice Concerns Committee.

Recently ordained into the transitional diaconate this past June,

Mary Marjorie is also coming from three years of ministry

with St. John’s Cathedral Los Angeles where she worked with children, youth, young adults, families, and newcomers. Mary Marjorie loves to listen to music (especially world music), study Spanish, read, dance, hike and hang out by the beach.

She is very excited to be a new addition to the great team of chaplains at St. Margaret’s Episcopal School and looks forward to getting to know and work with the parish community.
